Ronny Chieng

Ronny Xin Yi Chieng born 21 November 1985 in Malaysia, is an actor and comedian. Chieng is currently an executive correspondent for The Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also created and stars the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student, that debuted on ABC Australia (Australia) in the year 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an Malaysian Chinese family. Chieng grew up both in Singapore as well as in the United States, living in Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 to 1994. Chieng appeared with Trevor Noah at a Melbourne comedy festival in 2013. Chieng was then asked to be a candidate for the role as a correspondent for Noah's Daily Show two years later. He was named among the 10 Comics to watch by Variety in July 2016. In October of 2016, Chieng appeared as a guest on The Daily Show to discuss his response to the Jesse Watts Fox News segment that many thought was racist. Chieng expressed his opinion with a lot of expletive concerning the segment of the Fox News, the conservative network. Chieng also visited New york City's Chinatown where Watters made fun of the residents. The viral video received coverage in Slate and Washington Post. In his early years, Chieng was an Singapore Sea Scout. Even though he's lived in Australia for the past decade, Chieng doesn't have citizenship or permanent residency status in Australia. Chieng laughed in 2018 when he said he was cynophobic, but later stated that he is 100 percent not afraid of dogs.
